The sea is alive with fish.
The sea is alive with fish.
Fingers crossed these critters clean Ruffians ‘bottom’.
There are some ‘fix me uppers’ in Portimão.
The broken dinghy wheels get shipped off to the dinghy wheel hospital.
It’s not all glamour. Dodgy docks and dodgy ladders.
Iain is not a happy man. He finds tube after tube of ‘gone off’ sealant.
Night night.
Off to the fabled Benagil caves.
That’s pretty spectacular and we nearly have it to ourselves.
The caves go on forever and ever.
We’re pleased we’re ‘down here’ and not ‘up there’.
There really are some hidden beaches.
This is way off the beaten track.
Mid explore lunch.
One of the multitude of arches.
Only the Portuguese could invent extreme fishing.
There are not many places on Ruffian that are flat enough for Yoga.
The ‘blue tape’ makes every job a proper job.
Surely there are easier ways to retrieve things from the locker.
Portimão is just perfect.
The sky is turned red once again.
The fruits of the sea.
That’s not dodgy at all.
Not bad for a €15 hire car.
If forts could talk then this could talk of nearly 2000 years of history.
The excavations don’t take away from the fort’s history.
Silves is full of amazing architecture, the Gothic cathedral.
Symbols of servitude are everywhere.
Hiya buddy.
The castle still dominates the city. The Moors ruled the entire Algarve from here.
Another palace, another set of excavations.
It takes time and footfall to wear granite steps down.
The church dominates the trade on the river.
Up high we find the formal pleasure gardens.
The signs of Moorish invasion can still be found.
Things just get better and better.
This is not something you’d want to swim into.
Eroded cliffs make for interesting photography.
Just one more step back (and into the sinkhole).
Blue skies, blue water.
Sandy beaches, sandstone cliffs.
The road is loooooong.
Simply sensational.
We find some manicured gardens.
Another day another sunset.
